Experienced Nut Color Sorter Factory: What Buyers Should Verify

      An experienced nut color sorter factory does more than assemble cameras, lights and ejectors into a cabinet. It should be able to translate a processor’s nut samples into a sorting rule, build the correct machine configuration, test it before shipment and preserve enough technical information to support the installation later.

      A factory tour is useful only when the buyer knows what to inspect. The following audit route follows the life of a real order—from the first sample to final handover—and reveals whether engineering responsibility remains with the supplier.

      1. Begin in the Application Test Area

      The most important room may not be the assembly workshop. Ask to see where walnuts, pistachios, pecans, hazelnuts, almonds or other materials are tested. A capable team should request accepted, rejected and borderline samples, then explain what the proposed cameras or sensors will distinguish.

      Watch how the team checks both outlets. A clean-looking accepted stream is incomplete evidence if valuable kernels are being sent to reject. Ask the engineer to identify the recipe used, feed condition, number of passes and tested throughput so the demonstration can be repeated.

      2. Find the People Who Define the Machine

      A direct manufacturer should be able to connect the sales requirement with application engineering, mechanical design, electrical control and software configuration. Ask who decides between a chute and belt, when multi-view imaging is useful, and when infrared or X-ray inspection is required instead of a visible-color system.

      The answer should refer to the nut’s shape, surface, fragility, flow behavior and target defect. If the same machine is proposed before anyone reviews the material, the factory may be building a standard product rather than solving the application.

      3. Trace Components through Assembly

      In the workshop, verify how the feeding system, optical chamber, control hardware, lighting, air circuit and ejection system are assembled and checked. Look for model identification and production records that connect the physical machine to the sales contract.

      For food applications, inspect the surfaces that contact or sit close to the product. Ask how the machine is opened for cleaning, how dust is managed around the optical area and which routine maintenance points the operator must reach. A beautiful exterior is not a substitute for practical access.

      4. Confirm That Similar-Looking Models Are Controlled Separately

      Two nut sorters may share a frame while using different cameras, sensing packages, belt widths, chutes or software. The factory should maintain a bill of materials and configuration record for the exact model purchased. This is especially important when optional infrared or X-ray equipment changes what the machine can detect.

      Ask the supplier to put the sensing route, outlet arrangement, utilities and included auxiliary equipment in the technical agreement. It prevents a product-page feature from being assumed to exist on every machine in the range.

      5. Review the Pre-Shipment Test

      A factory acceptance test should check basic operation and the agreed material application. The buyer should be able to review the machine identity, alarm status, feeding, image acquisition, ejection, accepted and reject streams, and saved recipes. Utilities used during the test should be recorded so the destination site can be prepared correctly.

      When the customer cannot attend, video evidence and labeled output samples can make the review more concrete. The test does not guarantee that every future harvest will behave identically; it establishes a starting point and preserves the settings used on the supplied sample.

      6. Check Packing, Documents and Spare Parts

      Confirm how exposed components are protected for transport and whether the packing list matches the machine, tools, spare parts and auxiliary equipment in the order. Manuals, electrical information, installation requirements and operator materials should arrive in a language the customer can use.

      Spare parts should follow the machine configuration. Ask which parts are consumable, which failures can be diagnosed remotely and which components should be stocked locally when downtime is costly.

      7. Follow the Order Beyond the Factory Door

      Manufacturing experience becomes valuable only when it reaches the customer’s production line. The supplier should define installation responsibility, commissioning steps, operator training, recipe handover and the channel for technical support.
